Activities Manager

On a stretch of the Thames at Quarry Wood Road, Marlow, Longridge has one simple belief: every young person, whatever their background or ability, deserves the chance to get outside, try something new and surprise themselves. As a charity (no. 1121239), we keep our activities affordable so that the river, the woods and the climbing wall are open to everyone, not just the few.

We run day and residential programmes for schools, youth groups and families, and free holiday activity days through the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. Now we're looking for an Activities Manager to lead our instructor team and help shape Longridge's next chapter.

The role

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to build something, not just keep it ticking over. You'll:

• Lead and inspire a team of enthusiastic seasonal instructors: recruiting, training, mentoring and scheduling them so every session is safe, fun and well run

• Own the activities programme on water and land, keeping it fresh, inclusive and exciting for young people of all abilities

• Set the standard for safety, from risk assessments and equipment checks to qualifications and operating procedures

• Shape our future offer, working with the Team and Trustees to develop new programmes, grow our school and group bookings and make the most of the site and the season

• Be a visible presence on site, continue to lead and inspire young people to enjoy the outdoors

About you

• Experienced outdoor professional with relevant National Governing Body qualifications (paddlesports, climbing or similar) and the ambition to keep developing

• A natural team leader who gets the best out of young, seasonal staff and can develop future instructors

• Confident with risk management, safeguarding and operating procedures

• Organised, practical and calm when plans change (and on the river they do)

• Passionate about what the outdoors can do for young people, especially those who don't usually get the chance

Flexible for the right person

We'd ideally like this role to be full time, but we know great people don't always come in full-time packages. We're very happy to consider a job share or part-time arrangement, so if that's what works for you, please tell us when you apply.
