Secondary Schools

Longridge is an ideal location for secondary schools to create inspiring Outdoor Education opportunities. Our activities assist pupils to develop their physical skills in new and challenging situations.

Social education and aspects of citizenship can gain practical application through a residential trip, which can be tailored to meet the needs of the young people. Our residential courses can develop confidence and responsibility, giving young people opportunities to work together on practical tasks, and exercise the important social skills of teamwork and leadership. The activities assist pupils to develop their physical skills, learn new ones, and support each other as they face new challenges.

Schools can use Longridge all the year round and in a number of ways. There are our day and overnight activity packages. We also offer preparation courses to give less experienced pupils the confidence and skills before a full-day or overnight stay. And we provide follow-up sessions to sustain the learning developed on the full-day and overnight residential courses.

Below is a selection of our courses. However, we recognise that each school has its own requirements for pupil activity. With this in mind, please remember that all of these can be adapted, and courses can be created to respond to the needs of your school and of your pupils’ learning. Geographical Studies - October through to March, £2.00 per pupil for 2 hours.
Opportunities for learning include:

  • Changing landscape: looking at how and why our landscape is changing
  • River trips: our river trips offer an opportunity for pupils to see for themselves how a river changes and collect, record and present evidence about river characteristics
  • Orienteering: our orienteering courses assist pupils in using Ordnance Survey maps and even creating their own maps.

Preparing for an Overnight Trip – October through to March, £3.00 per pupil for a half-day of one or more survival skills activities, including cooking outdoors, creating a shelter and map reading.. £5.00 for a full day of activities.

Sustaining an Outdoor Experience
As a RYA and BCU training centre we can work with you to create programmes for your pupils that will allow them to work towards a recognised industry qualification. This can be as part of the school day or as a regular after-school or pre-school activity.

Broadening Horizons - Visiting during the summer (March – October).
Opportunities for learning include:

Day Visits
We have a number of standard day activity packages designed to suit a school timetable.

  • Bronze Day – package of rafting, team challenge and kayaking, £20.00 per pupil
  • Silver Day – package of dragon boating, kayaking and climbing, £28.00 per pupil
  • Gold Day – package of sailing, kayaking and canoeing, £40.00 per pupil.

Open Days – package of various activities from £5.00 per pupil. These days are devised as ‘try us out’ sessions and are usually run in March and September. If you are interested in one of these, please contact our bookings office, who will notify you as the dates become available.

We welcome the opportunity to devise bespoke packages for schools and can advise on suitable activities and timings.

Overnight Experiences
The ultimate way to enjoy our beautiful site is to stay with us, either on one of our campsites or in our bunk-house accommodation. Your programme with us can be tailored to suit your individual requirements but as a guide you would be looking at the following costs per pupil:

  • Overnight stay self-catering with 3 x activities, £20.00 per pupil per 24 hours
  • Overnight stay self-catering with 4 x activities, £25.00 per pupil per 24 hours
  • Overnight stay self-catering with 5 x activities, £30.00 per pupil per 24 hours

For indoor accommodation add £2.50 per person per 24 hours.
Full catering of breakfast, lunch and dinner add £10.00 per person to the prices.

Y7 Activity Courses
These courses are designed to encourage team building and to promote co-operation, co-ordination, consideration and communication. Specifically created for students who have joined a new peer group, to encourage camaraderie and develop skills to cope with a larger school environment.

These courses can be run as a day of activity or can also include an overnight experience.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
We are delighted to be an operating authority for this award and can work with schools already delivering the award to assist with Service – Skills – Physical Recreation and Expeditions. For schools not yet using the award, we can create, supervise and administer a programme for your school, to enable pupils from Y9 to Y13 to participate.
