Longridge can offer a fantastic range of safe yet invigorating activities for secondary school students. All our activities are designed to develop physical skills as well as boost confidence, team skills and leadership.

Longridge’s secondary school activities support the curriculum subjects of Physical Education, Citizenship, Geography and Science. We can also give full support to students working towards all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh Award

Environmental Studies

  • October- March
  • £2 per student
  • 2 hours

Changing Landscape

This course shows students first-hand how and why our landscape is changing due to natural and man-made problems.

River Trips

Students will collect, record and present evidence about river characteristics and learn about the changing course and nature of the river.

Orienteering

Our orienteering courses help students use Ordnance Survey maps and even create their own.

Preparing for an Overnight Trip

  • October-March
  • £3 per student for half day, £5 per student for full day

Activities on offer include:

Making a Shelter

This can be as simple as pitching a tent or as involved as making a shelter from natural materials.

Outdoor Cooking

Students can learn how to cook food safely on an open fire or barbecue.

Campcraft

This activity teaches young people how to light and sustain a campfire safely using a range of tools and equipment.

Preparing a Campsite

Students can learn how to get everything ready for their big stay.

Water Safety

This important activity teaches young people important safety skills when near water as well as basic first aid skills.

How to Pack a Bag

Students learn how to assess what they need to bring along on their residential trip.

Map Reading

Practical advice on using and creating maps.

Sustaining an Outdoor Experience

Bronze Day

  • £20 per student
  • Package includes; rafting, team challenge, kayaking.

Silver Day

  • £28 per student
  • Package includes; dragon boating, kayaking, climbing.

Gold Day

  • £40 per student
  • Package includes; sailing, kayaking, canoeing.

Open Days

Overnight Experiences

Longridge can offer secondary school students the chance to stay overnight, camping or in bunk-house accommodation. The programme can be tailored to individual requirements and prices below are a guide only. Please contact us through the website or call us on 01628 483252 for a full quote.

Bronze Package

  • £20 per student
  • Package includes; self-catering campsite accommodation with three activities over 24 hours.

Silver Package

  • £25 per student
  • Package includes; self catering campsite accommodation with four activities over 24 hours.

Gold Package

  • £30 per student
  • Package includes; self-catering campsite accommodation with five activities over 24 hours.

Indoor accommodation is offered at an additional £2.50 per student.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are offered at an additional £10 per person.

Year 7 Activity Courses

The transition from primary to secondary school can be daunting for young people. Longridge’s Year 7 Activity Courses are designed to encourage team participation, leadership and communication.

Duke of Edinburgh Awards

Longridge is delighted to be an operating authority for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. We work with schools already offering the award to students in the award fields of service, skills, physical recreation and expeditions.

We can create and administer a programme for students in Years 9-13 who attend schools not offering Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
