Littleton Guides & Senior Section are part of Shepperton District, 7 Members took part in a weir trip to raise funds for Longridge's new development.

1st Littleton Guides & now Senior Section (newly formed this year as are older girls didn't want to leave, largely due to their love of kayaking & Longridge summer camps in particular) have been coming to Longridge for the past 9 years (7 summer camps plus the last 2 weekends). 2 of the 5 Senior Section girls have now been on the last 5 Longridge summer camps & they all describe it as one of their favourite places on earth!

This year the Guides decided they would like to do something to raise money to sponsor some of the shingles for the new building, Their aim was to have as many shingles with their unit name on it as possible, to leave their mark on Longridge.

They decided having done a few weir trips that that would be a good idea for a sponsored event and the girls came up with the idea of shooting Marlow weir 10 times & paddling around the island each time to get back to the top. The idea being the bigger the challenge the more money they could raise.

Final figures aren't in yet but they estimate having raised between £900 & £1000 + the gift aid.

The trip was completed in 4 & a half hours, the distance paddled was approx 7.074 miles or 11.38 Km, with a total drop of 80foot.  Longridge's Activity Director Mark Campbell said " the Guides did an amazing job and as far as I know nobody has every done 10 consectutive weir trips round the island and Littleton Guides have created a record that we are looking forward to other groups trying to break!"

The girls are already planning  next years camp at Longridge, which will be the Group's centenary camp. Louise Hammett, the Group's Leader said "I'll be making an extra special cake for next year and I hope the leaders will be doing not only their FSRT next year but also their  Level 1 coach & the Guides are hoping to do either they're Paddle Power Discovery Or 2* & Paddle Power Passport for the new Guides and therefore 1st Littleton Guides & now 1st Littleton Senior Section new and old members will be visiting Longridge for Summer Camps for many years to come!"  This is great news for the centre as not only do we benefit from the Guides enthusiasm and great spirits but also the Longridge team get to enjoy Louises rather lovely cakes!
