About Longridge

A premier, year round, water sports and activity centre for young people of all backgrounds and abilities, providing training and leadership for all.

Our users include scouts, guides, schools, youth groups, individuals, organisations and corporate clients.

Established in 1957, Longridge is a successful charity providing affordable, world-class training opportunities in a wide range of challenging, water and land recreational activities.

With a very good safety record, Longridge is recognised amongst activity centers as being a leading training centre for young people and their leaders. We are an approved BCU (British Canoe Union) centre and RYA (Royal Yacht Association) training centre. Each year we run a large number of courses ranging from basic beginner skills right through to advanced coaching and instruction.

We are our own operating authority for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and able to provide training opportunities for all levels and sections of the award.

Longridge is primarily aimed at young people, however when young people are not using the site, we open it up to families and adult users. The Fire Service and Women’s Olympic Rowing Team both train at the site. In addition we encourage businesses to use the site for team development days.

Fundraising

Longridge Charity

Originally established in 1957 by the Scout Association as a campsite, the site was sold to an independent charity in 2005 to build on the scouting ethos and provide an affordable water activity centre for all young people.

Longridge is now a very credible facility that gives enormous pleasure to thousands of children, with around 27,000 young people visiting every year, a figure we aim to increase to 40,000 by 2009. Young people from schools & colleges as well as volunteer youth groups visit the site from a variety of backgrounds and from all over the UK. We also work with public funded & charity youth programmes for young people that have a variety of life challenges to overcome. It's not just as visitors and users that young people benefit from Longridge. We encourage 16-20 year olds to participate at every level at the centre, working as seasonal volunteers or as part of our volunteer crews. We also have an active group of young trustees, who inform and assist with the development of our plans for the site.

Your investment will help save and protect this very unique and valuable resource. Donors can be anonymous or they can purchase naming rights to certain building's, facilities or activities. Our new facilities will enable us to provide enhanced management training and team-building packages, sponsorship could bring synergy of use from sponsors.

Companies that have a Community Social Responsibility program aimed at building the community both locally and across Southern England or assisting youth development programmes can satisfy this need by sponsoring Longridge.

An activity that is great fun, accessible to all ages and abilities is our 9 hole disc golf course. The concept is the same as golf except that you play with disks (Frisbees). You tee off and throw your disk around the 9 hole course. Instead of having holes there is a specially designed basket for you to get your disk into.
